At Church Lawton School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. It means creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where every pupil can learn, grow and thrive.  Keeping children safe involves much more than responding to concerns. It includes promoting their health, wellbeing and welfare, while ensuring the school remains a secure place where pupils feel listened to, respected and protected.

Our safeguarding commitment includes:

  • Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Making sure all staff, volunteers and visitors have completed the appropriate safeguarding and security checks.
  • Protecting children from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
  • Taking a proactive approach to preventing bullying, harassment and discrimination.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent application of our school policies.
  • Supporting pupils with medical needs and providing appropriate first aid.
  • Ensuring educational visits and enrichment activities are planned and delivered safely.
  • Teaching children how to keep themselves safe, including when using technology and the internet.
  • Maintaining a secure and safe school environment.
  • Being a listening school where pupils know their worries and concerns will be taken seriously.

All staff receive regular safeguarding training, and safeguarding forms a key part of the induction process for every new member of staff. By working together with families and professionals, we strive to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and supported throughout their time at school.

Church Lawton School has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues, which include tackling radicalisation and extremism, together with recording and monitoring processes. Please visit our policies and procedures page: Policies and Procedures

Church Lawton School employs a strict selection and recruitment policy which includes all statutory checks on staff and regular volunteers, including Enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) checks.

Student Absence

Any student absence must be reported to the school by 8:30am each day that a child is absent.

To report an absence, please telephone 01270 877601 (option 1) and leave a message stating your child's name and the reason for their absence.

Please use this contact number for attendance questions or to notify us of appointments in school hours.  Alternatively, email office@churchlawtonschoo.org.uk, marking your email for the attention of our Attendance Officer, Jenny Treanor.

Student attendance is monitored closely, and concerns shared as appropriate with parents/carers, Education Welfare Officers, Social Care and the school Safeguarding team. Church Lawton School works effectively with other agencies and parents/carers when necessary to safeguard young people.

Our Attendance Policy can be found on our policies and procedures page: Policies and Procedures
