Church Lawton School Achieves the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

We are delighted to announce that Church Lawton School was awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag following our successful submission in July 2026. This nationally and internationally recognised accreditation celebrates the environmental work undertaken by our pupils and staff and reflects our continuing commitment to sustainability, environmental education and responsible citizenship.

What is the Eco-Schools Green Flag?

The Eco-Schools programme provides a seven-step framework through which pupils identify environmental priorities, plan action, involve their school community and evaluate the difference they have made. The Green Flag Award recognises schools that have successfully embedded environmental learning and pupil-led action into school life.

Achieving the award is an important acknowledgement of the contribution made by our pupils. It demonstrates that their ideas, choices and actions can have a meaningful impact both within school and in the wider community. It also gives pupils opportunities to develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving and leadership skills through practical and purposeful activities.

Sustainability at Church Lawton School

Environmental education complements our Quality of Life curriculum and our commitment to preparing pupils for adulthood. At Church Lawton, pupils aged 4–19 are supported to understand how everyday decisions can affect their school, community and the wider world.

Participation is made accessible according to each pupil’s age, communication style, interests and individual needs. Pupils can contribute through practical activities, discussions, visual choices, research, data collection and creative work. This ensures that environmental action is meaningful and inclusive and that every pupil has an opportunity to make a positive contribution.

Receiving the Green Flag is not the end of our work. It provides a strong foundation for further improvement. Our sustainability network will continue to meet termly, share effective practice and consider opportunities for pupils and staff across the school and Liberty Academy Trust.

We will continue to review our environmental priorities, celebrate pupils’ achievements and look for practical ways to reduce our impact on the planet. Future actions will be shared with families and the wider community so that everyone can support our environmental journey.
